Eve Ensler Luncheon
As part of the the One Billion Rising event, The Chelko Foundation hosted a luncheon with Eve Ensler at the Warren City club.
When Paul Chelko met Eve Ensler, we knew that it was the beginning of a powerful partnership. Since 2007, The Chelko Foundation has supported Eve Ensler’s V-Day global projects as her mission parallels the Foundation’s vision. Through both volunteer service and fiscal support, The Foundation’s has helped increase crucial messaging and awareness for both organizations.
The positive impact of the City of Joy in the Congo supported by V-Day is testament to the powerful voice that continues to speak out against Female Genital Mutilation. The City of Joy is a transformational leadership community for women survivors of violence, located in Bukavu, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Conceived, owned, and run by local Congolese, the City of Joy has flourished since it first opened its doors in June 2011, healing women from their past trauma through therapy and life skills programming while providing them with the essential ingredients needed to move forward in life – love and community.
The grassroots movement of One Billion Rising raises awareness of a multitude of women’s issues including human sex trafficking, gender bias, to name a few.
